Up Up & Away

Things have really moved forward over the last week. It is amazing how quickly the brickies get started. Our builder thinks he may finish early so more pressure on me to get all my stuff done.

I have built the new wall between the dining room and the living room. This has allowed me to move (Partially) the kitchen into it's new location. (The kitchen in the picture is our old one and this will be moved into the utility room once we order our new kitchen) I have just put it there so we have running water. Also, it needed to be moved as the builder is talking about knocking the wall down into the new extension in a week or two. Here are some pictures for you to look at.

Looking into the garage from what will be our new living room,

We now have flooring in the extension area, Picture looking into our new kitchen diner area from our new living room. Wall with the door you can see will be knocked down so this will all be open plan,

Where the kitchen was still to move the wall units and fridge, where the Fridge is will be our new downstairs loo, I will try and put this up on Sunday.

New location for kitchen

New wall I have built wall with the rad on it will be knocked down and supported by an RSJ the is will increase the size of the living room by 3m2.

Another picture looking into the garage,

Our new back door entrance that will take you into the utility room, there will be a second door that will take you from the utility room to the garage.

That's all for now guys,

The Brickies are here

Hi All,

As the title says the brickies have been on site today and have completed up to damp proof level in prepreation for the building contol officer tomorrow. It has been great to finally 'see' something happen as the buildiers have now been around for 3 weeks, it just goes to show how long things can take when it rains!!.

They have also been digging the hole where the new man holes will be a job that I am glad I have not had to do. There will be two man holes constructed one for the rain water and a second for the foul water, it you read through the blog you will find out what a hassle getting this sorted out have been. However, with the hole dug I have been assured that they will start tomorrow so things have really started to move forward.
I have spent the day moving everything from the living room to the spare bedroom today, now the living room is clear I will hopefully start to knock the wall down next week!!

Pictures of work below.

Your on Camera

Hi all,

A quick update to what been happening.

The concrete slab at the on the back extension has been laid (This is the storage area under the rear extension) and also the pour for the side extension has been completed. We have also had even more deliveries of materials. They are now being stored on the street. (Anyone who knows this road will testify that parking/access is tight at the best of times) so I do not know how this is going down with the neighbours!!

Our builder cam around last night and gave Christine and I some brick samples to look at, now we have chosen these I believe the brickies will be on site tomorrow. We should start to see the build rise from the ground in the next few days which will be great.

Try the link www.garrychristine.camstreams.com for our webcam and you may see some of the build in action!!.

You all know what the builders have been doing but what about me?? Well I have been finishing the spare room so it will be ready for all the living room furniture. It is now all sanded and painted so tomorrow, all being well, I will be able to move all the living room stuff up stair and stripe the living room ready for the wall to be knocked down!!.

Will post some pics tomorrow hopefully you will have something more to see.

Thanks

Garry & Christine

Catching Up

Sorry I have not up dated that much lately however I have been away on holiday.

As you can see from the pictures I uploaded before I went work has started on the extension. The builder have been and dug all the rear foundations and finally poured the concrete on Tuesday, see picture below

They started on Mon 12th May the day we got clearance from Thames water which ment we could actually do the foundation!! Work I think has been quite slow as this has taken so long however everything has been dug by hand due to poor digger access and also rain rain and even more rain. It would seem that every day the guys came to dig it rained!!

However, the house is beginning to look more and more like a building site every day,

The foundation for the new garage foundation has been dug and will be poured tomorrow (I hope) here is the foundation they have dug,

Water and all!!

Whilst the builders have been digging I have been trying to get the spare bedroom finished so we can move all our living room stuff into the spare room and live out of there as a living room as I knock wall between the living room and dining room as we plan to move this wall back 1m to extend the size of the living room. This will, I am sure, be fun as I have never done anything like this before!!

Have a look at the pictures I have taken of the spare room, all we need to do now is a bit of painting and it will be ready to move the living room upstairs.

Before I plastered the hole in the ceiling I had to get the building control officer to sign off my gallow brackets and new flooring joists which he did on Friday when he was looking at the foundations. Finally a picture of our bedroom wall with the skirting on and painted, no need for the pollyfiller thankfully!!.
That's all for now
