Now the Garage

Is anything safe when I have a day off!!

I have had a really busy day with the house, I first noticed that the plan the architect has sent to the planning department has two errors on it. The porch is shown on the floorplan, but not on the elevation. Also we wanted french doors on the rear of the house, again this is shown on the floorplan but not the elevation. This is going to hold us back a couple of weeks as the architect will have to re do the plans what a pain!!!

Anyway in answer to the above question is anything safe when I have a day off??

What do you think? Today I took the roof of the garage, however as it is asbestos I had to be very careful and soak the roof to ensure no asbestos particles got into the air. I was also in all my protective gear, mask, gloves, disposable outfit. This is not was not a pretty sight. I have arranged for the council to pick up the asbestos sheets. They are all stored outside in the back garden wrapped in 1000 gauge plastic sheeting and taped up. (the sheets are the same as used on a concrete floor as a DPC). It is £60 for collection and £35 for the tape and sheeting so taking the roof down which would normally be an easy job cost £100 and a day's work.

All I seem to be doing is paying to throw things away, oh the fun!!!

That's all for now folks, my next day off is Sat & Sun so hopefully we can knock the garage down. We will leave the front with the door on so that from the front it looks like nothing has been done before the planning is (fingers crossed) passed.

That's all for now.

What we did today.

Today I/we finished knocking down the lean to and filling the skip. We have now filled our first skip!! How many more to go, we should run bet on how many we need, hopefully not to many as they are £200 a hit!!
Unfortunately I do not have any pictures as it got dark just as we finished, however I will post some later on when I have a chance to take some in the light.
The next job is the garage I wonder how long I can hold out before I start to knock that down.
Anyway not much more to add except Christine and I ache so time for a bath.

Remember pictures to follow!!!

Bye Bye Lean to

My main plan was to get the plans photocopied so I could post them up to Scotland and pop into the planning department to get them to give the plans a once over so if there were to be any amendment we could get the drawings altered ASAP. Also discuss with the building inspector if the removal of the chimney stack would incur an additional fee or if it would come under the fee for the house extension. However, after a double shift at work (someone phoned in sick and I had to close) I left the drawings at work.

So with my plan for the day blown out of the water I thought I would clear out the lean to and have a bit of a lazy day. I ordered the skip today so I could start knocking down the lean to on Sunday with Christine, the skip company told me that the they could deliver the skip on Wednesday so Sunday was on. As I was clearing out the lean to the skip company turned up with the skip, so a change of plan!!!

The start of our extension

We are slowly getting there. The plans have been drawn up and sent to the planning department, all structural calculations have been completed and the house valued for the mortgage company so now I want to start the great demolition project!!

Christine would not allow me to do this until I have a shed to store all the rubbish from the garage (the car has not been in for about 1 yr).

The hut was ordered (screwfix direct) best value and delivery was free and very quick. I put the shed up over the week it took longer than I would have liked due to the rain. The rear of the garden is like a bog but it is now a bog with a shed.

We emptied the garage today with the help of Christine's Mum and Dad and completely filled the shed and front garden.

Hopefully if I can get a skip in then we can begin knocking down the lean too and garage.

Will follow on when the skip arrives and once I have begun knocking things down!!
